Calculate Cost
—Estimated annual cost of attrition
—Cost per employee who leaves
—Cost per leaver as a share of annual CTC
How it’s calculated

A transparent formula

  • Recruitment: your cost per hire
  • Onboarding: your training and induction cost per hire
  • Vacancy: monthly CTC × months vacant (an estimate of the value of work not done)
  • Ramp-up: monthly CTC × ramp-up months × the productivity shortfall

This is an estimate built on your own assumptions. It excludes harder-to-measure costs such as lost clients, team morale and knowledge loss, so the true cost is usually higher.

Reduce it

Attrition is usually a hiring and management problem

Better selection, stronger first-time managers and real engagement cut turnover. In one engagement, our selection redesign cut first-day joining drops by 83%.

A cost estimate vs. a VATS attrition diagnosis

This calculator gives you a headline number. In a consulting assignment, the goal isn’t to price attrition; it’s to find out why people leave, which exits really hurt, and what will stop them.

One average, one role

  • A single average CTC and attrition count
  • Direct costs only
  • Your own assumptions
  • No root causes
In a VATS consulting assignment

Root causes and a retention plan

  • Attrition segmented by tenure (day one, first 60 days, first year), role, location, manager and performance level
  • Regretted vs. non-regretted exits separated, so effort goes where it matters
  • Exit and stay interviews plus engagement, happiness and stress surveys
  • Selection validation: testing whether interviews and tests actually predict retention and performance
  • Manager-level analysis, since people often leave managers, not companies
  • A costed retention plan with targets and tracking
